2015 College Football Playoffs Heat up

American Football Player catching a touchdown passWith only two weeks until the bowl season, the College Football Playoff is really starting to heat up.

This past weekend saw some great teams go up against some great opponents.  There is still a lot to be decided when it comes to the top 4 teams that get into the playoff.  Here are some of the big games that happened on Saturday.

Clemson vs. South Carolina

No. 1 Clemson headed to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks.  This game was considered to be a cakewalk for the Tigers but that wasn’t exactly what happened.  Clemson ended up in a dogfight with South Carolina.  They only ended up winning the game by 5 points and secured their spot in the ACC Championship game.

Alabama vs. Auburn

The Iron Bowl also was played on Saturday.  Alabama and Auburn played this game close all the way down to the 4th quarter.  The Crimson Tide won the game 29-13 to seal their spot in the SEC Championship game.

Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State

No. 3 Oklahoma was also in game action.  Their game against Oklahoma State was not nearly as close as the first two games.  The Sooners came out of the gate scoring in bunches.  The Oklahoma Sooners were up 44-20 by half-time and didn’t look back.  The final score ended up being 58-23.  This should secure the Sooners spot in the College Football Playoff.

Iowa vs. Nebraska

The No. 4 team in the rankings is Iowa.  They played this past week but their game was on Friday.  They took on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.  Nebraska kept the game within reach the entire time but was really never a threat to upset the Hawkeyes.  Iowa continued their undefeated season and locked their spot up in the Big Ten Championship game with a win 28-20.

Michigan State vs. Penn State

There are a few teams on the outside looking in.  No. 5 Michigan State played Penn State on Saturday and didn’t have a problem.  The Spartans were in control from the first snap.  They ended up winning 55-16.

Notre Dame vs. Stanford

The big game of the week was by far No. 6 Notre Dame vs. No. 9 Stanford.  This game came down to the wire after four quarters of great football.  The Cardinal ended up winning 38-36 on a last second field goal.

This weekend went a long way in decided the final rankings for the College Football Playoff.  I am excited to see what conference championship week brings.
